this sucks… not in a bad way but just the whole vibe. It’s funny at times, bittersweet, beautiful, but most of all it’s just fucked up. I feel like with a movie like this it’s pretty hard to reach a satisfying conclusion. The message cannot be “yeah being a paramedic sucks don’t do it lol” but also it is pretty clear from everything that it DOES just fucking suck. Randy has panic attacks constantly, he has no friends, no breaks, no money, nothing. It’s one of those jobs where we need some peeps to take one for the team, become completely apathetic and just roll with it. And Randy can do that. The one movie this reminded me of was actually “[orozco the embalmer](https://boxd.it/3yFW)”, because it’s about that same *type* of job i guess, the type where apathy about death becomes a gift. Also miss girl kinda sucked as doctor. who in the hell told this woman that going “OH MY GOD ARE YOU HAVING A HEART ATTACK?” to someone having a panic attack is a good idea???

boyfriend came over to meet the parents, this is the perfect movie

*Emerald Fennell could direct a saw movie and it would probably turn me on* Fennells eye for making every single shot so disgustingly erotic and erotically disgusting cannot be overstated. This movie is enchanting. Especially the opening scene is one of the best i’ve ever seen. Talk about setting the tone. That being said, she also cannot for the life of her decide whether this is a dark thriller (or even horror) or a romance. Now I have not read the books, I know a huge portion has been cut out, I know the casting is horrible, etc, but aside from that i can’t tell how accurate it is, so i’ll judge it on its own. There are some scenes/sections where the energy is just palpable. These two people are so horrible to each other, around each other, but they cannot go without each other. It feels like it’s gonna be either a hard cut to sex, or a murder so brutal i’ll be traumatised for life. The scenes where the stench of abuse still lingers, where hatred and love become indistinguishable. Those were the good parts. There were some other parts where it just felt like Fennell kinda forgot what the point of the movie was, where it was just a tragic tale of star crossed lovers with no complications whatsoever. Then there were other scenes, that were just… strange (yes i’m talking about the “dog”) I don’t even know why they were included. Also are we seriously supposed to think that was “liberating”??? like genuinely asking was that the point??? cause to me it screamed actual horrific abuse she was just coerced into but perhaps that’s wishful thinking, I sure hope it isn’t. Overall, this movie had some damn great potential, but fennell just keeps losing the plot and getting too horny. 5/10
