“hey matt, what did jung say about glowsticks?” this time i followed along with the screenplay. first read-through, surprisingly. the og screenplay was wayyyy darker (minus the questionable descriptions of minors??). it’s clear that chronicle could’ve easily gone the rated-r route: more vulgar, more gruesome. kinda wish it did. like, there’s a scene where andrew tries to self-harm and finds out he’s basically untouchable by forming a telekinetic barrier over his skin. shit was insane. or when he kills his father by pulling apart his limbs. absolutely brutal. the writing really emphasized how isolated and troubled andrew was—his dad was portrayed even more aggressively here than in the film… it’s honestly impressive that dane managed to translate that on screen, especially since a bunch of dialogue and scenes were scrapped from the final work. >>>> i also read the draft for chronicle 2: martyr. thought it was cool—it’s not my favorite, but it did give me some closure after the first film. it’s kinda bittersweet that martyr never made it to production. i would’ve loved to see alex russell in a sequel. ❤️ it sucks that max landis turned out to be a scumbag—he had plans for a third film too. could’ve been a sick trilogy. if you haven’t read the scripts for chronicle 1 or 2, you really should. i’m planning to do more read-alongs like this going forward!!
