Got to witness what is probably (certainly) my favorite movie, in IMAX, if this was the last time I ever watched a movie, I would be more than satisfied, I don't need to see any more.
Everything in this is perfect, and apart from the 100 obvious qualities praised by everyone, people sometimes talk about the first half being slow... as a negative? I love it, I love that it's slow, I love that it feels like these detectives seem to be losing time before the killer commits the 7 murders, I love the pessimistic hopelessness of Somerset clashing with the naive confidence of Mills. I love watching the killer toying with them. It drenches you in the case, giving you just enough to keep you engaged with it, but never mouth feeding you, it connects you with the detectives, you have the same information they do and depending on who you are, on your first watch you will either be optimistic about catching the killer like Mills or despaired like Somerset.
It is thanks to that first half that the ending everyone agrees on, is so genius, my favorite ending of all time, with the most expertly crafted and delivered reveal ever.
