the future is so gay, you guys!!!
but in all seriousness, this is the type of movie that reminds me of why I love science fiction so deeply. the future is terrifying and this genre allows us to explore both the fears and hopes of contemporary society. if we’re gonna have robots, why not humanize them? if we’re gonna have climate change, why wouldn’t humans just build physical bubbles around our homes and pretend it’s not happening? and if we’re gonna be able to time travel, why wouldn’t little adventurous boys jump on the chance to see dinosaurs when they’re not allowed? sure, the execution wasn’t perfect (was I the only one deeply disturbed by the baby?) but this has the bones to be the type of movie that little kids will grow up with and love — and maybe even make them think a little bit about how dire the future might be unless we…well, pivot. and I don’t know about you, but this is definitely the movie that I’d want to have that societal footprint rather than k-pop demon hunters.
