Arrival
Still top 3 - this movie hold up every time I watch it. It’s a movie that’s rewatchable not in a “there’s more to discover each time” way but a “yeah this just slaps” way.
Watched with @kt and forgot how ominous and terrifying the shots and soundtrack actually are the first time you see it.
While the acting, cinematography, music, and pacing (under 2 hours is huge for me) are excellent, the story and plot just take the cake here. Props go to both Teddy boy and Dennis - the source material is genius, and the slight changes (Hannah’s story) are an improvement over the original. The reveal is also perfectly executed by dropping bits and pieces and finally letting the audience in on all of it. At the end of the movie you feel like you’ve really figured something out as an audience member.
Also love to think about the implications of a world where everyone knows the universal language - great sci fi
