Shutter Island
after the big reveal, we’re told leo’s character is sick because of trauma and loss. but honestly, even till the end, i wasn’t fully convinced. maybe that doesn’t even make sense and maybe i’m totally wrong, but my brain kept going two ways. the way the doctors and nurses constantly controlled the story, fed him answers, and literally staged the whole island like a play made me feel like they could’ve been shaping his reality instead of fixing him. sure, maybe the trauma was real but what if the illness wasn’t? what if they were just turning everyone there into patients for their own research? that thought lowkey stuck with me. that’s what i love about this movie though — you can see it from two totally different sides and both kinda work. definitely rewatching this so i can catch all the little details and overthink it properly.
