Sentimental Value
I feel as if claiming this film as relatable is superficial or performative, and it just generally makes me uncomfortable to insinuate my family has such a chasm. But I do struggle to see my mother and sister ever being friends. And I think that’s what this movie is for, to show it’s okay. To show that maybe where we think there is hatred there is just an inability to properly communicate, decisions made in ignorance that are taken as being made in spite, and maybe people just grow apart. It’s such a complex topic and it’s hard to put into words, but maybe next time someone asks me about it, I’ll tell them to watch this.
