Interstellar
Before we get into the coherent part of this review, a few scattered notes:
This movie cost more than Chandrayaan-2 and I think there's an irony in that.
I cannot believe Timothee Chalamet grew up to become Casey Affleck.
Anne Hathaway's big speech about love felt just a little off to me, but I know the relevance of it so I'll let it slide
Now for the (relatively) coherent part of this.
What a movie. It is so profoundly human, even though the things happening are nothing like what we see in our daily lives.
Every so often, I'll watch a movie (probably one about space), and I'll just have this absolutely burning desire to be a part of something huge. This movie took that spark and fanned it till it became a fucking wildfire.
Side note: I loved the recurring Lazarus symbolism. The MCU should've taken notes instead of their shoddy Icarus usage.
Although I hated Matt Damon, with justifiable reason, I understood so completely where he was coming from. I, of course, have not been stranded on an inhabitable planet, but the fundamental drive to be around people, to not be left behind, was so tangible. It is so easy to hate him but easier still, to sympathize with him.
This movie made me tear up (and almost break down) so many fucking times. It just does such a beautiful job of creating bonds with the characters and having little moments signify such important events. God, my expectations for this movie were high but it outdid them ALL.
This is The Fucking Movie and I am, at the same time, glad to have watched it and sorrowful that I'll never get to see it for the first time again. Just beautiful.
(insert that Lady Gaga gif here).
ETA: I watched it again and I just. The attention to little details is blowing my mind. The way the space-time curvature is shown, in the wormhole and in the black hole, is fucking cinematic. The way they show the spinning of the Endurance in different perspectives and the shift in lighting when it spins! Absolutely genius! There aren't enough words to describe how fucking complete this movie is.
Also i can't believe i didn't mention this originally, but the godamned score. THE SCORE. Hans Zimmer just does not stop defying my expectations. Behenchod, mazze hi aagaye
