With all the recent discourse about Superman, Spiderman, Deadpool, Wolverine and whichever other lame has-beens, I couldn’t help but revisit the definitive superhero film. The warehouse fight. Big Daddy’s legendary laugh. MySpace. Calling people gay as a joke without a second thought. The Gnarls Barkley needle drop. Jet-pack minigun. Literally everything hit girl does - ESPECIALLY jumping in slow mo in strobe lighting while Nic Cage screams the most incomprehensible sounds known to man. The Morricone needle drop. The ELVIS needle drop?!? THE SPINE-TINGLING SCORE OF ALL SCORES. This is the kind of timeless masterpiece that could only ever be the product of a truly ‘twisted mind’. Inject it. Feel it. Drink it in. This is superhero heritage. “That was one weird sounding bazooka”
