Midsommar
I cannot believe they released the theactrical cut. The director's cut of Midsommar is an entirely different (better) film. The theatrical cut is certainly more broadly entertaining and excitingly presented, but this is a film that feels like a ritualistic spell being cast upon the audience. The runes, the murals, the chanting, the literal rituals! It all serves to create this spellbinding atmosphere of dread and allegory. Every scene is given so much more room to breathe. I genuinely don't believe this is only 20 minutes longer. It adds entirely new plots and character arcs that were clearly always meant to be there. It just all makes sense and fits together perfectly. Horror is alive and I am so glad I get to witness it's resurrection. Long live Ari Aster (and Robert Eggers)!
