Dune
watched this again with my boyfriend who was seeing it for the first time, and god. this movie even on a fourth viewing (to me) is absolutely flawless.
call it what you will: fate, destiny, a giant sandworm, but above all else this movie is about fate and, more importantly, the actions and consequences of defying it. i have never read the books and know very little about the dune series aside from the movie itself (and what my nerdy ex explained to me about it being an allegory for the wars in iraq and afghanistan, but thats a whole can of sandworms i am definitely not tall enough to ride), and while i know we’re not supposed to really be rooting for paul persay, theres something so horrifying yet incredible about watching his rise to power in real time, and watching it change him for better and for worse.
this movie is also THE movie id show to someone if theyd never watched a single movie in their whole life. the directing, the acting, the SCORE the fucking design of everything in this movie!!!! its immersive on a whole other level that i cant believe, and it deserves nothing less than an eternal place on every imax screen ever made. i cannot WAIT to see this on sunday morning with my family in a packed imax theatre at 11am in the morning, bc you know this shit is gonna be a top contender for movie of the year right out the gate.
