Love, Simon
I know this is objectively not the greatest film ever made but unfortunately it is extremely important TO ME.
I checked the book adaptation of this in the school library before I was out of the closet so fairly sure the school librarian knew I liked cock before my own family. Shout out to school libraries. Genuinely don't think I'll ever have such a voracious reading experience like that again like I devoured the book.
Anyway that's about the book, onto the actual point of letterbox...the film. I went to see this by my own when it came out whilst I was at University and I teared up during the opening shot, which was compounded by the fact that there were quite a few men watching it alone in the audience.
The theatre teacher is hilarious and the added scenes with the mum and dad are soul crushing and emotional and made me cry on the plane. Therapist Jennifer Garner woman that you are xoxo
It does take some liberties and makes the plot more palatable and marketable for the masses, which I suppose is the trade off for a major studio gay teen film. And the way his friends treat him in this film still fills me with rage to this day like wtaf your boy is being hate crimed in front of you!!
