Dunkirk
this may have been one of the most perspective-changing rewatches i’ve ever had. even though christopher nolan is the mastermind behind mind bending films such as memento and inception, i think dunkirk is his most misunderstood and underrated film.
to be honest, even i didn’t know what i was in for when i saw this film for the first time. i thought i was going to be watching a “traditional” war film, but i should never have expected nolan to make something like that. nolan can somehow adapt his genius storytelling to every genre he pleases.
this film is not about the conflict between two sides, this film is purely about survival.
“survival’s not fair”
“it’s fear, and it’s greed”
i will also say this is one of the best nolan’s visually in my opinion, the colour pallet and the cinematography all just had to the tone of this film.
and we cannot forget about hans zimmer, though far from his best work, this score is one of the most effective i’ve seen in cinema. the score elevated the tension and hope to a level i’ve have never felt before from the score alone.
this film has catapulted itself as one of my favourite nolan’s and one of my favourite war films. an absolute masterpiece.
