Mad god… where do I start??? So this is all my interpretation of this film and I don’t think there is a right or wrong interpretation or opinion on this film but just bear with me for a bit because I legit wrote notes about it thats how much it interests me. I’m in the middle of writing this and I realised to get to my points I need to kinda fill you in on the film for my points to make sense. This is less of a review and more of an English test if you know what I mean, it’s just all of my theories on this film and my way of making it make sense.
The assassin (the protagonist) sees an army of these creatures and it seems like they are working and all move simultaneously to work towards a goal we are unsure of. Suddenly a babies voice is heard from big speakers, the creatures surround a Tv, they seem to take orders from the being on the screen that sounds much like a baby. I think this is Phil tippets way of saying that the people with the most control act like babies especially when they are corrupt, dictators and blatantly stupid cough cough trump *cough huh who said that? Anyways then we see some huge creatures that look like Just a ball of sludge control these smaller creatures, they whip them and even kill them which is extremely common. We see a Scene where one of these monsters just shit all over one of the smaller creatures (let’s just call them minions) and then orders it to clean up it’s feces and it’s anus. In doing so the big monster shoots shit all over the same minion again. I think this is to highlight the disgust and evil that people who work for the corrupt government and in history in general just corrupt people. For example, Nazis, slave owners etc, just think of the most evil people in history (the baby) and then whoever works for them (the shit monsters).
Now onto the assassin (the protagonist). I personally think the assassin could be an angel sent from heaven to try and cleanse the world of evil as later in the story we see a man who sends these ‘assassins’ on their mission, but i will get to that later. As I was saying he could be trying to cleanse this hell ridden earth, much like the great flood and the story of Noah. We know this because just before he is captured he places a bomb down, seemingly to destroy the world. I will touch on this a bit later in the review…
After the assassin gets captured we see what looks like a cinema filling up and behind the curtain is the shadow of the assassin lay flat on a table, a man injects him as the assassin struggles and screeches, the audience find joy in this and laugh, they also laugh at him getting stripped. I had a few theories for this, I thought that it could be that our world make jokes and take joy in other peoples suffering unknowingly having never experienced their pain. Or I thought that it could be symbolic for how cinema and film can help us escape our true reality through letting us escape into other worlds, or it could be that cinema shows us things like suffering, pain, loss and grief over and over again and very rarely in it’s true form so much so that we get blinded and when we see something that is truly terrifying or shocking we take it less seriously and sometimes make it seem funny and take humour from it.
Inside of the assassins guts we see the surgeons pull out gold jewellery and lots of treasures, this could either be showing how pure the assassin truly is (being an angel) or the assassin is a human and it is symbolic for man’s true desire… riches. They then pull a baby out of the assassin but the baby isn’t human so I think that’s more evidence for the assassin to either be an angel or just another creature.
We then see a huge amount of assassins working in what looks like a separate world or land, we are then introduced to their leader that is named ‘the last man’ and I think this clears up the angel theory for me because I think that ‘the last man’ is the last human in this world and he has managed to convince these ‘assassins’ that he is some kind of god. He makes the assassins to work and act like men do, giving them all roles in their working environment. When he is choosing an outfit we see him put on a kippah, once a religious expression from his old world, this further exemplifies the false prophet idea. When he gets a new map from the ‘witches’ he sends another assassin into the depths of the hellish world from what looks like the sky, clearly a link to heaven and maybe the ‘last man’ ordered for his kingdom to be in the sky to replicate heaven.
Shit I’m gonna run out of space.
I’ll post the rest in the comments if you acc care
