The Thing
The scariest aspects of this film are the themes of isolation, desperation and uncertainty. They are also highlighted by the freezing and barren Antarctic landscape.
The story is very well done and paced out.
It induces a feeling of paranoia and a sense of mystery.
I love when a film is done this way; it reminds me of The Lighthouse (2019).
This film has many great scenes.
That dog felt uncanny from the beginning, so when the other dogs started barking, and he changed into the thing, it scared me a little, I won't lie.
Another great one is, of course, the blood test scene. It makes you question the characters just as they're all already doubting eachother.
All the moments with people turning into the thing are good; they fuel the chaos even more.
The ending is seemingly left for interpretation, but it's pretty obvious that MacReady is infected by saliva on the bottle earlier on, and when he passes it to Childs, the thing wins, which explains his laugh.
Finally, I have to give props to the lack of CGI. It's no easy task to make a movie like this without it, but it really pays off in the enjoyment of the movie.
