Audition

You're in love, so you can't think straight. 1080p Blu-ray release from Umbrella Entertainment in Australia. Good visual quality, but not necessarily anything groundbreaking. All in all solid purchase! Aoyama was grinning like a motherfucker for that entire middle section, it was genuinely getting under my skin. Not a good guy! Love when a film builds and builds and builds and spills everything all over the place in one fell swoop. Miike does a really wonderful job at starting with a fairly regular drama, then slowly but surely creating this air of uneasiness around Asami before absolutely wrecking house and devastating the viewer. Could absolutely see someone watching this blind and not catching on to the horror aspect until it's too late. Not the best late night watch! Tongue stuff NOT FOR ME! Don't like it!!! Intensely relieved no dick stuff happened. Acupuncture therapy has never felt less intriguing. Needles are already bad, but this? This is an albatross. Miike is a very prolific director with over 100 films under his belt and this is my second of his. The first was Ace Attorney, which was a wonderful adaptation of one of my favourite video games ever made, possibly the greatest video game adaptation in my eyes. Also not even CLOSE in tone to Audition. Ace Attorney was fun and heartfelt! This is decidedly not. Need to watch more of his films! Made me deeply uncomfortable, and that was the goal. Incredible film. Shigehiko should consider kickboxing or MMA in his future. The dinosaur stuff is worthy study though! *All words are lies. But pain doesn't lie.*
