Lovely★Complex
I didn’t watch the anime, I read the manga but I needed somewhere to talk about this because it was so fucking good.
I was never a huge romance anime guy to begin with, the most romance I’d ever get was in Dandadan and MHA. Before this, I read “my dress up darling” which I thought was good but not spectacular (way better in manga than anime btw). Anyways, my friend recommends this to me and im indifferent at first because I wasn’t a huge romance guy. First chapter I was instantly hooked into reading this. It’s been I think 4 or 5 days since I started reading it and this story has brought so much to me. I was literally excited to get my homework and classes done because it meant I got to read this.
Otani and Koizumi’s dynamic is a rare one, and it’s one that should 100% be shown in more stuff. Otani is the 5’2 boy who constantly argues with 5’8 Koizumi, but then koizumi realized that these arguments were a vessel for feelings to develop, and develop they did. The way that this manga uses romance tropes that are typically used is incredible, I don’t gaf what people say.
I haven’t felt this excited to read a manga since I have read The Promised Neverland, which is my favorite manga of all time. This has easily taken second place, and im going to bang my head against a wall until I can find something similar to it, I absolutely love this series.
I will totally recommend for anybody trying to get into the romance genre, it is so approachable and only 17 volumes, not that big of a commitment.
All honesty, im a grown ass man at college, I should not be kicking my feet at shoujo romance manga made 20 years ago, but here we are. Lovely Complex is an instant classic, my second favorite manga ever, (and while im going to tap into the genre more) the best romance so far. This is truly a work of art.
