My Hero Academia
This review is supposed to be for the anticipated live action of MHA, but idk if it’s even been greenlit so I’m gonna use it as a placeholder for the actual anime and manga if my hero academia.
My hero academia was my second anime that I ever watched, following assassination classroom in 2020. I loved assassination classroom but I still wasn’t convinced that anime wasn’t weird. Then my friend recommended me this, I laughed in his face. I saw the fan base of this show and there truly was no way anything good could transpire from this. However, I took the risk.
I was instantly hooked from the very first episode, the animation was great and the characters seemed extremely likable. I couldn’t stop watching it. In 2020 I binged basically the whole show which was around the time that season 4 came out. From that day, I’ve been following it since, watching the anime for 4-6 and then finally getting into manga around the 7th season. I remember staying up some nights to read the chapter leaks to see what happened next, and then I remember when I was at an away overnight camp when the final chapter came out, it was sad, but I thought it was ok because the anime was still coming out.
Flash forward to today, and the anime of mha has ended. There’s been many times I’ve cried through this final season, but not as hard as I did the last episode. It’s truly heartbreaking, seeing something that you’ve been following for so long finally comes to an end. All these characters and plot lines I’ve seemingly grown up with have concluded and theres no more new content coming out.
I won’t sit here and say that my hero academia didn’t change who I am as a person. If you know me well in real life, you know exactly how much I love this anime. From the cringe and unbearable person I was in 2020, to who I am now, my hero academia has played an insanely huge part in my life and i am so glad that I was able to experience it in my lifetime. I am incredibly sad it is over but it gave me my favorite shonen ever and my 3rd favorite anime ever. No matter what, I will recommend this to everybody I know because the thought of somebody missing out on a show as incredible as this is truly upsetting.
Every character in this story, is so meticulously and beautifully written (esp the villains) and I seriously just love everything in it so much. I’ve reread it, but never rewatched it, and I feel when I do I’ll enjoy the experience even more.
I will defend this anime with every last fiber of my being because it truly means that much to me. If you are good friends with me the reason I am who I am is influenced heavily by the existence of this series.
To wrap up this dumb rant I made at 2 in the morning, I want to thank Kohei Horikoshi who made such a beautiful series, my homie Cameron who told me to watch it in the first place, and everybody who stuck with me throughout the years as this show progressed.
I truly don’t believe I’ll find another shonen i enjoy as much as this, but I’ll never stop looking.
Go beyond, plus ultra.
