Enchanted
if any film deserves an essay from me, it is this one. but the problem is, i literally do not know where to begin.
everything about this movie is genuinely perfection. kevin lima the man that you are. the way this was shot. the cinematography is pure perfection. nothing can top it. i know what u said about pitch perfect (2012), but two things can be true. this is THE film.
as a disney lover and a hopeless romantic, this movie is the reason i am the way that i am. pure fairytale romance and happiness??? half-2d animated, half-love action musical??? set in new york city?? bro this is ME!!!!! the references to older disney movies and princesses fuel me with joy. jodi benson you treasure.
the music is WONDERFUL, alan menken and stephen schwartz, you delivered me everything i’ve ever needed. talk ab an iconic duo. the man behind the little mermaid, beauty and the beast, aladdin, hercules, newsies, etc. teams up with the man behind wicked, pippin, children of eden, prince of egypt, etc. like UGHH. i know they’ve teamed up before, but when i found out, i was mind blown. thank you both for your service.
the performances from literally everyone are perfect. nobody lacked anything. it was genuinely so perfectly cast. even the extras. shout out mya bus driver. you are my diva and i hope you are well. the mary poppins extras in “that’s how you know,” 🥹🥹🥹
patrick dempsey’s performance as robert phillip…that character…oh i swear. he is the ideal specimen. like when i think of a husband, i think of him. he set the bar so high. prince eric from the little mermaid and robert from enchanted are the reasons my standards are so high. NEED ME A MAN LIKE THAT. that’s husband.
this story is a basic one, but it is executed and written so well. like i mean this wholeheartedly, this movie deserved every award ever. it should’ve been nominated for every oscar and won. it’s the most perfect movie ever made. nothing can ever tarnish it. not even the god-awful sequel (that doesn’t exist in my mind). it’s so perfect.
see what i mean? it’s so hard to write this essay bc everything about this film is so perfect. but one of these days i will write a genuine formal essay on the film. we all know i’m going to rewatch it again at some point, if not soon. i love this movie more than anything in the world, and it genuinely means so much to me. forever my favorite. forever the best. long live andalasia, long live giselle.
