Do the Right Thing
holy shit spike lee is a phenomenal director
peak peak peak bro oml
ok anyways here’s some thoughts i had during the movie
i told u bro a movie doesn’t need a plot to be good
ts the birthplace of atlanta??
the way ppl treat smiley says soo much about them
the dutch angle close ups w radio raheem and the tense encounters are so tuff
pino wearing white against the others in black is so loool and then he has a black overshirt oh and then mookies also wearing white hmmmm….
sal turning from vito to pino was also super tuff like he was wearing black bc on the outside he’s accepting and everything but when push comes to shove he’s pino
bro the dutch angle for the fight is acc the cherry on top
i feel like thematically this was very similar to la haine u know with a backdrop of high tensions just waiting for the last straw to set everything off whether that be the policeman in paris or the boycott of sals. but i do think that this was defo better than la haine not like head and shoulders above but defo better
also i forgot to mention with this u really got to feel a connection with each character and even the women although they aren’t given too much space in the movie at least they’re people unlike the killing of a chinese bookie where they’re all like toys or accessories.
though the film did explore a lot of different race relations i really did appreciate the study of the black italian relationship like the three italian men show three different ways of thinking. vito displays a childlike purity and acceptance when it comes to this, pino has been corrupted and holds up a mirror to many white men who view black people as less than (except for their idols ofc, they’re “more than black”), and sal who is superficially accepting until shit hits the fan then he’s not a fan any more
