The Hours
This film managed to create an emptiness in my heart, yet it also healed something inside of me at the same time. There’s 3 captivating and brilliant performances by Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore, and Meryl Streep. I love seeing how the connections being made. For example, there was the final scene with clarissa and laura meeting and their conservation they had — which was incredibly beautiful. Though Virginia Woolf does not directly meet the other two characters, she is still playing a role in their lives through her novel — Mrs. Dalloway — being constantly interwoven in the story. I loved how time was a major theme. The time periods themselves were playing a role into the harsh realities that Virginia and Laura faced. Along with life and death. The “hours” representing death, which virginia and richard ended up sadly succumbing to. But the film also showed Laura choosing “life”, which resulted from her abandoning her family. Before that, the film showed Laura attempting suicide, which means that she would have ended up succumbing to the “hours” if she stayed with her family.
