Luca
A refreshing film that was a nice change of pace from complex, face paced stories. I now am able to put my finger on what a Studio Ghibli film embodies and this is a perfect example. Lower stakes and simplicity while still managing to integrate complex ideas. For instance Luca’s complex emotions involving exploring the surface was delivered well visually. He is hesitant about his desire to explore yet guilty of having the desire in the first place. This is illustrated by the “weight” of the ocean as he imagines leaving. It’s an understandable emotion that is still complex. And that’s just the beginning of the film. I wouldn’t recommend this enough.
