Paprika
In 2006 Satoshi Kon came out with Paprika, and it's a near masterpiece. I was really excited to watch this movie based on the concept and the animation, and it did not disappoint. I thought this movie's animation was so good, I loved how unique every character was, I especially loved Tokita's design, and I loved how detailed all the backgrounds were, they were so beautiful. I loved the use of CGI in this movie, it flows so well with the 2d animation. I loved the pacing of the story, I thought it was great, nothing felt rushed which is impressive due to this movie's hour and a half run time. I also loved the progression of the story. On paper the idea of this movie going from this mysterious detective style movie to this titan final battle sounds chaotic and doomed to fail, but they managed to progress so well to where it worked. I liked The Chairman's reveal and I thought his motive was good as well. I liked Konakawa's struggles throughout the film and I liked how it was tied to film, I thought that was cool. I really loved the message of the dangers of escapism and I think The Chairman was the perfect portrayal of that. I thought Paprika and Chiba were cool protagonists. I liked how the movie didn't explain things like how Chiba and Paprika are connected and just acted like it was normal, it didn't need to be explained to tell the story and I'm glad they didn't. I overall liked all the characters and I thought they all were very interesting in all their own rights. Overall, this movie is a near masterpiece and I recommend watching.
