The Thing
In 1982 John Carpenter released The Thing, and it's a near masterpiece. I was really hyped going into this movie because I adore practical effects and I love the concept as well, and I was nowhere near disappointed. I want to start off with the visuals because I thought they were great, I thought the shots they took were cool and all of them looked visually beautiful. I thought the sets themselves looked amazing and you can tell all the love and care that went into them. The practical effects looked absolutely perfect, they looked so good and the whole time I was so mesmerized how they even made this, it was so cool and definitely my biggest standout in this film. I loved the paranoia and how the movie never feeds you who The Thing is, so you are just as clueless as the crew. I thought the acting was great from everyone involved, they all really helped with the immersivity of this film. The horror elements were great, my standout is definitely the sequence where Dr. Copper was trying to save Norris, just for him to be The Thing, which had probably the best practical effects in the whole movie or when they were testing blood and Palmer is revealed to be The Thing which also has amazing practical effects. I loved the ending as well, it was so perfect for the film, I love the uncertainty of if The Thing is still alive or not and I think it's so cool how it's still debated about to this day. Overall, this movie definitely lives up to all it's hype, truly an amazing film.
