Perfect Blue
HOLY SHIT. where do i even start?
this movie’s depiction of psychosis, sexual assault, the idol industry, how the media views women, and dissociation is all so unique and beautiful. i have never EVER seen a movie as just… purely impactful as this one. it’s been almost a week since i’ve watched it and i still think about it DAILY. the color symbolism. and don’t get me started on the SOUNDTRACK! that shit was TERRIFYING. i can remember it so distinctly because the theme is so impactful and it sends a chill down my fucking spine. it’s just so beautiful. the animation. every sequence is so so well-made, seriously. i just. this movie is now one of my favorites of all time.
truthfully, this movie does such a good job at putting you in mima’s shoes. i didn’t realize that rumi was even half as involved as she was until the very end. maybe that makes me bad at interpreting movies, but honestly it just made the experience so much more impactful. something about it all really resonated with me.
regardless of how you interpret this film, i think it is SO worth the watch.
