my dvd of the directors cut finally came and i got to watch it and it was beautiful. i fear i shall have to watch the theatrical again to compare with them fresh in my mind.
considering for the last legend watch i was pretty drunk, i was surprised that watching it sober also brought some sleepiness that made it so i would almost start nodding off before being reawakened by some beautiful set piece or movement or tom cruises glitter face. i think obviously with the panty shots (and the tim curry devil) this probably would not have happened, but i think my mom should have used this movie instead of giving us benadryl on long car trips. that being said that sleepiness and dreaminess was absolutely 10x better watching it in a theater on film - but still a great experience. i think that dream quality of the risky business- all the right moves - legend - top gun run of movies is so fascinating (and maybe intentional— that’s why we go to the movies!)
i just love that this movie exists
