2046
This is actually a quick edit of my review because my original one was trash.
Few filmmakers standout for their style quite like Wong Kar-wai. This film feels like the culmination of that style into an interesting narrative jam packed with some of his most stunning cinematography, and most passionate moments (some of the best sex in film). It does have the flaw of being a little hard to get into, but I’d argue that’s an issue with In The Mood For Love as well. I personally think this is Wong Kar-wai’s Magnum Opus even if In The Mood For Love is more popular, simply because of its consistency. I also still like Chungking Express more, but idk if I’d go as far as to say it’s the better film at this point.
In summary my top 3 Wong Kar-wai films are very close in ranking so I fully understand anyone calling each one his “best film”.
