Millennium Mambo
Rarely do you ever see a paring this magnificent between music and film. I felt like I was floating in moments when those dreamy electronic sounds started playing over shots of colorful backdrops, and moody aesthetics. It was a complete vibe that captivated me enough where I had to watch them back. Outside of that, the character of Vicky kind of feels like a vessel for exploring the feeling of drift during your youth. I don’t know if I’m quite at the age to fully relate to it, but the idea definitely still made me feel something. Exceptional filmmaking that has proven to me that Taiwanese cinema contains some of the most beautiful pieces of work in the industry. The only thing holding this down is the plot didn’t really do anything for me, but I did really like Jack so that pulled it together. At the end of the day though plot doesn’t really matter here so if you enjoy vibey films, you’ll probably enjoy this.
