Bound
"you know what the difference is between you and me violet?""no.""me neither."
i love bound. i adore this film. everyone in my life knows just how much i adore bound. i literally cannot sit still when someone mentions this movie.
this movie changed me as a person. it's one of those movies that will become integrated into my life. it's stylish, it's erotic, it's a thriller. it's a noir and a triumph of lesbians over heteropatriarchy. it's about escaping the boxes we put ourselves in. as scholar mckenzie wark wrote for her essay in the criterion collection, bound is a film about "boxes within boxes." bound asks you to suspend your disbelief so you can simply feel. feeling is the most important thing of this film. what you know is what you feel. and it is that exact feeling that will allow you to escape the confines of your binds.
jennifer tilly and gina gershon are absolutely magnetic in this film. they make you realize that true love exists and it might only be an apartment away. together, they are bound by heteropatriarchy. and only together are they able to escape from it with their shiny new truck, black leather, and sunglasses.
