About Time
I remember when I first watched this and didn't know what to expect, I was so pleasantly surprised and really did enjoy it, since then I have rewatched it and then once again I saw it and loved it. There's just something about it, I think it gets better with each watch and is truly an underrated one, everyone talks about Love Actually or Bridget Jones when they talk about Richard Curtis and this one is forgotten about or not appreciated enough.
In ways it's similar to Love Actually, it's about looking for those little moments in life, it's about the details and the people around you that matter. The film has a lovely message which it echoes throughout. I recommend going into this one blind, there's a unique aspect to this one that I think is worth not knowing about as it adds to the enjoyment but it also doesn't matter if you know the unique aspect because it doesn't affect the viewing.
The story is really lovely, it's pretty calm and funny. There's so many jokes, awkward scenes and funny moments throughout. I laughed a lot because it is just all really well done. The story is relatable when he is 21 but as he grows up more and more. It's less relatable but that doesn't change anything because the story is so beautiful to watch and I think the romance of the film is one of the strongest elements. The film changes with each watch as like everything you do have a new perspective every time you watch something because of the things that life throws at you or the things that you experience.
This might be my best watch, the film just flew by and I was left wanting more, it's such an easy film to watch but it does hit you with some hard and emotional scenes which takes you by surprise but the pay off is really good in my opinion. The characters are sweet and loveable, even some of the characters that aren't the nicest, they still have something to them that makes them a little bit likeable. However the main characters are excellent, I love their relationship and watching it grow and blossom over time, it's just really lovely to see.
There's such a range of emotions in this one and it's balanced in such a wonderful way, there's comedy, drama, emotion and so much more. The unique aspect is used really well and whilst some other films would rely on it. The film shines on its own but the unique aspect takes the film further than most rom coms, it's up there with a favourite of mine.
The cast is so good, Rachel McAdams and Domnhall Gleeson nail the awkward and shy characters and it's nice to see them slowly come out of their shell as the film goes on. Rachel is such an underrated actress and is so Domnhall so I always pay attention when they are in a film or TV show. Bill Nighy is excellent, his role is different from Love Actually or other things, the role is genuine and authentic. Margot Robbie also stars in this one, she is good but is a background character and is kinda just there but she isn't bad. Tom Hollander is also so chaotic and I love it, his character is soft in the middle but it's not easy to reach the soft part.
Richard Curtis directs this film in an aesthetically pleasing way. It's just so amazing to watch, the montages are done well, the transition scenes and the camera does a lot with the actors and the scenes, Curtis is a fantastic director and always love to see what films he does. I think this film is a masterpiece in so many ways and I look forward to seeing it again.
