X-Men: First Class
Really really good film right here. Certainly the best in the X-Men series up to this point. Getting an in-depth look into Erik’s upbringing is always touching, and I think it was a great way to open this movie. They also did a great job providing backstory to a lot of relationships that had very little explanation five movies into the series. Seeing how Charles and Erik went from being brothers to becoming the Professor X and Magneto we know was easily one of the best parts of the movie, although I do think it took place a little abruptly. McAvoy and Fassbender were phenomenal in their portrayals of Charles and Erik, especially considering how difficult it is to imagine those characters without Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen. They really made those versions their own. There was definitely less action than the previous films, but they replaced that with some phenomenal storytelling. It’s also the first movie that doesn’t spam Wolverine if we’re being real 😂. The focus and attention on the other characters was much needed. Really good movie overall.
