***Do My Top 4 Films Really Deserve Top 4 Status? - Part 1: Amadeus*** I’ve been reconsidering if the films in my top 4 are really WORTHY enough to be in my top 4. Ive decided to start with Amadeus because it is the only one I had not rewatched. What I can say is that is that this film is just as amazing as I remember it being. This is gonna be one of my few long reviews. The thing that sticks out the most about this film is its amazing central performances from F. Murray Abraham and Tom Hulce - who both give probably top 10 performances. The year at the oscars they had to put both in leading actor because they knew if one went in supporting it would be an easy win. I do like F. Murray Abrahams performance in this a little more and he defo deserved the oscar. The performances from everyone else are great too, such as The Emperor and Constance. The story is SO good, jumping back and forth in time between the past and the present at the insane asylum is su ch a great choice, and immerses you in the story so much more. Abraham is such a good storyteller, and Father Vogler is also a great addition. The way the story is told is amazing, following both of the characters. The cinematography is awesome, the scenes with Salieri disguised as Leopold Mozart are so awesome. And the costumes are so obviously amazing, alongside the set - you feel like you’re actually in the 1700s. Not to mention the recreation if mozarts music, you would think its old recordings but they recreated every song for this. This film is LIT

Best satire film ever

The film is absolutely amazing but that ending pisses me the fuck off. Tim Robbins character is literally constantly suffering the entire film and everyone treats this clearly mentally ill victim of child SA like shit and not one person in this film takes that into account. At the end of this film Sean Penn and Kevin Bacon start talking about some bullshit like ‘oh yeah so you did just kill a completely innocent mentally unwell man but you did it for your family so its okay and we can be best friends forever!’ And then Kevin Bacon ALSO says ‘Yeah getting SA’d as a child is bad and he had a hard life, but we ALL have it hard so what are you gonna do’ The bit where Sean Penn kills Tim Robbins is actually the most upset I’ve ever been at a scene in a film, but that is probably because of the fantastic acting from Penn and Robbins (who both fully deserved the oscar wins), and the mystery is great, and every other part of this film is great except that ending and Clint Eastwoods WHACK morals. It would be 5 stars without that abysmal last 15 minutes.
