Mystic River
The film is absolutely amazing but that ending pisses me the fuck off.
Tim Robbins character is literally constantly suffering the entire film and everyone treats this clearly mentally ill victim of child SA like shit and not one person in this film takes that into account. At the end of this film Sean Penn and Kevin Bacon start talking about some bullshit like ‘oh yeah so you did just kill a completely innocent mentally unwell man but you did it for your family so its okay and we can be best friends forever!’ And then Kevin Bacon ALSO says ‘Yeah getting SA’d as a child is bad and he had a hard life, but we ALL have it hard so what are you gonna do’
The bit where Sean Penn kills Tim Robbins is actually the most upset I’ve ever been at a scene in a film, but that is probably because of the fantastic acting from Penn and Robbins (who both fully deserved the oscar wins), and the mystery is great, and every other part of this film is great except that ending and Clint Eastwoods WHACK morals. It would be 5 stars without that abysmal last 15 minutes.
