The Fly
What if Peter Parker got bitten by a fly instead of a spider and instead of becoming a superhero, he slowly turned into the grossest science experiment ever put on film? That’s The Fly. A romance, a tragedy, a body-horror story where the main love triangle is: man, woman, teleportation pod.
Jeff Goldblum stars as a babbling, twitchy genius who invents a teleportation machine and, like any normal person would, immediately tests it on himself. Unfortunately, he forgets one tiny detail: there’s a housefly in the machine. Whoops! Cue the slow, oozing, jaw-melting transformation from eccentric scientist to full-on insectoid nightmare. Think Kafka meets Cronenberg meets "what if puberty never stopped?"
It’s grotesque. It’s heartbreaking. It’s full of practical effects so wet and squishy you can almost smell them. And yet, underneath all the slime, it’s kind of beautiful. A tragic love story about ambition, loss, and losing yourself (literally) in the name of science.
Watch it if you want to see Peter Parker’s worst-case scenario.
