Tenet
“Does your head hurt yet?”
I’m actually in awe. This movie is so unbelievably cool.
I think I understand about 70% of it. I almost have it.> In the beginning, when we first learn about inversion, the scientist says, “Don’t try to understand it. Feel it.” I imagine that as Nolan talking directly to the audience: don’t try to wrap your head around it, just feel the movie and enjoy it.> The way everything is happening at once is so cool — the beginning and the end are happening at the exact same time. Trying to wrap your mind around that is difficult, but at the same time it gives you this feeling of “holy shit.” It’s just unbelievably impressive.> Every scene at the airport is peak cinema. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. And the entire third act, from when they explain the red and blue teams onward, is just brilliant — absolutely brilliant.> The final scene with Pattinson and Washington may be one of Nolan’s best. I honestly can’t think of a better word for it than awe.> Since I don’t fully understand the story yet, I was really focused on the technical aspects of the movie. The cinematography was stunning — every single shot was gorgeous. The sound design and score were both fantastic, and the acting, especially from Washington and Pattinson, was the cherry on top.> My only major issue is how much they dump on you in the beginning. They go through everything so fast, and every single line of dialogue is crucial to the story. It’s so dense that you can’t even think about what they’re saying, because you’ll miss the next line. It’s just way too much, way too fast. But this is only in Act One—they clean it up for Acts Two and Three.> This is the next film we’re watching in my film class, and I wanted to see it on my own first so that when we watch it in class it’ll be a rewatch. And I’m glad I did, because holy shit — this is just awesome.
