Train Dreams
Every year for the past few years, me and my parents have watched every movie nominated for best picture. It has become tradition that we watch the (usually around 5) movies that were nominated, and when we are done, we rank them. Every year there are some both me and my parents alike just dread having to watch. There are some movies that are just so boring. We usually try to do these first, and save the ones that we think we will like, closer to the actual awards.
Train dreams was that movie when my mom clicked on it. Merely a formality. A tradition. We started the movie and immediately went scrolling on our phones, but slowly and surely the movie started to catch more and more of our attention. The movie was boring, just like we had thought, but it was a boring we hadn’t seen before. It was also enchanting.
It is hard to make a movie that people will like. It is much harder to do it when people already have their mind made up, that they won’t like it. Once the climax hit, none of us looked at our phones. None of us went to the bathroom. None of us got up to get a drink. It was special.
I am not depressed, far from it. But If I was, this movie would have cured it, even if only for a few minutes.
