Netflix pulled me into this mess using a clever 3-fold plan - 1. Casting Michelle Dockery in the lead role 2. Playing a slowed down version of Cher’s Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down) in the trailer 3. The promise of a female-centric Western centered around a town inhabited almost solely by women, all of whom must fight to protect their turf I was SO excited to watch this that I forced myself to continue even after the point where I realized this show was not going to be near as fun or exciting as I had believed.  Michelle Dockery’s Western “accent” was really just a British woman doing her best to even sound vaguely American … there wasn’t a hint of genuine twang to be found.  The story that had so much promise completely fell apart because the show-runners were never actually trying to tell a female-centric story. The whole series focuses on the men in the story, as incredibly ironic as that may seem. In different hands, I truly believe this could have been a masterpiece, but unfortunately this was what we got instead.
