F1
What the hell do we owe one another, anyways?
Kosinski has come a long way since Tron: Legacy. F1 is a culmination of everything he has learned as a director, I feel, and it pays off in dividends and then some. The sound design is so layered, the image is so crisp, and the weight and magnitude of the racing is just incredible. It really does feel like you’re in the driver’s seat during the races.
At its core, F1 is about what we owe one another. What can the old do for the young and what can the young do for the old? What does it mean to show up for other people? How do you build a team in a sport that feels so singularly focused — at least from outside looking in? Pitt is all over the marketing, but Idris is just as much a star. The dual protagonist setup allows for both of their characters to have growth but also affords Pitt’s character to settle into the same conclusions he had before but with more confidence and vigor. He’s in and out like a Marry Poppins-esque character who truly feels like he actually does learn something from those he looks after.
If we owe each other anything, it’s everything
