Babylon
I am forever a “Babylon” fan. From a rager perspective, this makes “Wolf of Wall Street” look like a kid’s movie. It is easily the most chaotic movie of the year: the camerawork, the atmosphere, the story, and really just everybody. The partying and drugs are an all-time level of batshit bananas. Beyond that, it is a true thank you to old life Hollywood, an ode to cinema, and the Roaring 20’s. It is a perfect depiction of the rise and fall of careers because of how talkies swept silent movies under the rug. No, it didn’t need to be over three hours. Yes, there are filler scenes. But it never stops electrifying audiences with either blown out parties or crazy drama. Fuck the critics on this one: three hours flew by and I’d see it again in a heartbeat. Maybe my ADHD was able to piece together all the frenetic energy into a cohesive movie.
