Beckham
It’s easy to think this is a pointless documentary because he’s really not that old. Yet, it’s eye opening to the type of person David Beckham is off the pitch: humble. Yes, he’s a bit flashy, but he isn’t gloating or trying to compensate for anything. He just wants to live a quiet life as a husband and dad. To the old footage: it’s a lot. A lot of it is iconic and heartbreaking, and the rest feels kind of wasteful. Wasteful, as in, either this didn’t need to be four parts, or it could’ve been 2-3 with longer part times. I just felt like chunks of each part had about 10 minutes I didn’t need. His marriage with Victoria is on full display along with his career, and the pitfalls of making your family your job over your sports career. It’s a difficult balance. There’s a moment where he humbles Victoria at one part because he values transparency. Even if you aren’t a sports fan, there’s plenty of pop world drama that unfolds. But as a sports fan, you’ll appreciate his career- and him as a human- more.
