Lessons in Chemistry
Apple really has some sort of kink making shows with 1950s/1960s environments this year, right? As with every role she takes, Brie Larson is stellar despite the incels online who critique every single thing she says and does because she’s not “smiling”. Ironically, she plays another female lead who doesn’t like to smile, so… Anway, the show. With Brie and Lewis Pullman carrying the show, they have incredible chemistry to hold your interest. It relies solely on one’s interest to invest in a show about a chemist-turned-tv chef, so expect lots of dialogue and piecing together situations. Which for me is fine. But I know people who would dread this type of content. Also, since it’s the 1960s, there are certain, I’ll say, discriminations, that come with the era- one justifies the guarding of Brie’s character, and the other is a subplot that hasn’t gone anywhere yet other than show Lewis’ kind character and support. It’s the start of something interesting, so long as they don’t deviate off the path it laid out.
