Fred Astaire is the most mesmerizing dancer the silver screen has ever witnessed, and may not ever get knocked down (Gene Kelly is the only true competition). The footwork is just… fucking ridiculous. And the cameraman just let the camera hang on a wide shot so the audience can study the footwork and be in awe. The chemistry was always so palpable with Ginger Rogers, and here they give the world one of the most famous dance numbers in cinematic history. The story itself is pretty rudimentary, but not one lacking charm or any depth. It’s the theatrics that make you crank your jaw off the ground. If you ever watch a Fred Astaire movie, this is the one you must watch.
