Crash
I’m in awe of how Cronenberg breathes life into inanimate objects, here, cars and even corpses. In Crash, there’s a strange symbiosis between the mechanical and the organic: metal and flesh fuse, each responding to the other. The friction of leather seats, the hum of tires on asphalt, bodies colliding with one another, and the hypnotic rhythm of the car wash rollers: all become part of the same pulse.
It’s a fetish of adrenaline, where sexual desire and death drive merge into a single intoxicating rush. Every encounter, every crash, every caress of steel against skin feels like a hit the characters are chasing an ultimate fusion of pleasure and destruction.
