Hamnet
a beautiful film from start to finish. utterly heart wrenching and tender. marvelous sound design that manages to make silence both suffocating and sublime. Jessie Buckley is a phenom, definitely my pick for best actress this awards season. Paul mescal is also compelling! i wish we’d gotten more time to sit with them as characters, though they manage to do a lot with what felt like only a little. jacobi jupe is also incredible, so much emotion and care put into this performance. the cinematography is also very pretty, full of rich colors and very stage-framed shots.
the last 20 minutes of this movie are just remarkable. the rich dual metaphor between the main story and hamlet itself is complex and layered, something that I’d need to read both the original book and hamlet itself to really appreciate fully. all this paired with a beautiful score? just a real treat. would watch again!
