“you’re not an asshole, mark. you’re just trying so hard to be”
one of the best films to come out in the 21st century. seamlessly well produced from head to toe, the script is sharp and poignant while the performances are subtle and understated, which make the moments of weight feel that much heavier. the soundtrack is masterful, and fincher’s directorial vision is remarkable.
not a comfort film, but a film i find myself returning to often. it’s not something to relate to, but maybe something to pity. a cautionary tale? an attempt at understanding the logical and emotional state of a rowing machine? or maybe a stairmaster.
