Babylon
Six years ago I couldn’t stop tearing up in a Damien Chazelle movie over the life I so badly wanted and tonight I sat in another Chazelle tearing up over the life I am so grateful I have. I have no way of understanding or communicating with the world divested from cinema and Chazelle worships at that exact same church. It’s ridiculous and brash and gorgeous and so funny and sentimental and certainly not for everyone. I adored how it communicated the sheer number of people that this absolutely insane industry employees who are so happy to just be in proximity to the thing they love and how in LA the path to your dreams could become completely clear if you meet the right person at a party. Margot Robbie is characteristically fantastic and Diego Calva is the beating heart of the film. I walked away though most in awe of Pitt’s performance of a character so deeply sad and dignified. I’m going to revisit this film very often.
