Ran
Man is born crying. When he has cried enough, he dies.
A technical masterpiece of unbelievable magnitude. Easily one of Kurosawa’s best, perhaps even one of the best films ever made. A bloody story of betrayal, brutality, and violence. In a world riddled with selfish, power hungry men, is there any room for loyalty or justice?
I can’t believe it took me so long to watch this, but I can happily say it lived up to every expectation. Kurosawa’s directing is literally out of this world. The use of color is masterfully executed. The performances were so powerful, especially Nakadai. He literally becomes Lord Hidetora. The fight scenes are so insane; I can’t imagine trying to direct such grand sequences. And the final shot is so fucking good. Literally everything about this film is perfect.
