Shine on Me is a green-flag comfort romance Chinese drama that will brighten your mind and soften your heart. It is about Dr. Lin Yusen, a promising neurosurgeon, who is about to meet a girl he likes when he unfortunately got into an accident that ruined his career. On the other hand, Now Xiguang, a fresh college graduate, is about to take on new heights in the solar industry. Former surgeon Yusen gets into the same company as Xiguang, and that's where the misunderstanding about her identity happens.
Now, where do I even start with this. I know this sounds cliché but if I could sump up this drama in one word—it's sunshine. Watching every episode was like a hug of warmth as Xiguang and Yusen navigates their past and strives towards their goals. Their characters were very inspiring. The plot sometimes stretched too much, but nevertheless the pacing was just right. The conflict and story progression was realistic and hits right at home especially for those who are lost and confused about their dreams.
For me, Lin Yusen is the perfect kind of green-flag. His love for Xiguang is just like a tree. It grows, slow and steady. He shades and protects her no matter what. His concern and comfort are branch-like tough that is strong enough to carry the weight of the heart. But most importantly, he is clear with his feelings. Just like a trunk to its roots, his love is unwavering. His choice stands still, and waits unconditionally.
Xiguang is just as much as a green-flag as Yusen. She is the definition of a fighter. She is brave and emotionally mature, never letting others trample her down. Just like the sun, she is compassionate and helps others to she'd light on what's true. Although what Zhuang Xu did to her was caused by so much lies and deception, she respects herself enough to leave. She is bright enough to know her worth and communicates deeply to Yusen. She is loyal and kind. Xiguang really is the sun on a warm summer day.
Shine on Me is a great reminder that even though life can be too harsh, we can start again. Lies do hurt and difficult to overcome, but the truth is always there waiting. Xiguang and Yusen's love story proves that the right person for us will come at a perfect time. That no matter how long and dark the night maybe, the sun will shine and rise at dawn every single time.
