Possession
“when i’m away from you i think of you as an animal or a woman possessed, and then i see you again and all this disappears”
zulawski’s blocking is BANANAS. i usually don’t like using the word underrated but like honestly how is he not considered one of the greatest directors of all time. i don’t think there’s a single still shot, and the camera movements almost always go against what you would expect. there’s such kinetic scale
oh my GOD that subway station scene. how did isabelle adjani do that. also i like that they had her play helen as a total contrast hahah. just like to show she’s not just a scream queen
the end of a relationship is hell… but you come out a better person. or, you go looking for a “better” version of your partner and you see in them the same traits you fell in love with in the first place.
it’s ultimately a pretty simple plot, but the visual metaphor of every scene really allows you to FEEL the story. like breakups feel so goddamn dramatic in real life but aren’t that dramatic to watch. this circumvents that by showing the characters as literal monsters and murderers
btw worst private eye… ever?
marriage story is so tame lmfao
