Clueless
“Two very enthusiastic thumbs up, fine holiday fun!”
A personal favourite (and guilty pleasure) of mine for awhile. Seen this on VHS as a kid but I never knew much about it. Rediscovered it in middle school and it instantly became a classic in my mind. I tried to hide the fact that I loved this film, but I was very insecure about everything about me. Eventually I’d let my positive thoughts about this film out, not feeling ashamed. I know this is a girls movie, I love it anyways so I could care less. That’s when I say either “Whatever” or “As if!” Once I was called the male version of Cher because of the amount of plaid I wear, but unlike her, at least I have some more reasonable traits and I grew up very poor. Some people who are also in my age group (I was born in 2001) have been discovering this classic saying “omg that’s totally me”, kudos to them to watching one of the greatest moments in film history, although they only discover it because it’s a filler for streaming services and the fact that the whole film with its glorious aesthetic have been parodied in Iggy Azaleas fucking “Fancy” music video, Which is meh, the song is trash, it’s Not my fucking Tempo! (Just like what JK Simmons said in Whiplash) I really dig the easygoing screenplay and the natural, yet so vivid cinematography, it’s worth striking gold for, and is a very memorable, especially with the quotes like hello...
The third act did fall somewhat flat but it works itself out nicely. Does Cher realize she’s getting it with her step brother? Isn’t that incest? Does Cher end up getting redeeming qualities sometime?
I’m happy Paramount is re-distributing the Blu Ray disc after they tried to reissue the old Warner Bros disc onto an inferior BD-R. The WB BD was decent, and that very copy will be in Paramount’s reissue, this time on an actual Blu Ray Disc again. BD-R’s are the biggest waste of product and money. Blu Ray copies of this have been hard to find and that’s why I’m still rocking the old 1997 DVD, which has superior cover art than the Blu Rays.
Also, this world hasn’t been the same without Brittany Murphy. Her character as Tai is actually great and relatable. Doesn’t take away that her other roles in the films she was in were good.
Overall, this shit is amazing, simple, yet effective. Not ashamed to be a guy who’s a huge fan of this classic. Really is fine holiday fun, I’m always giving this 2 very enthusiastic thumbs up. My favourite Mel Gibson character is Pippi Longstocking.
